Introducing Dessa

The Music Sustainability Initiative (MSI) is thrilled to welcome our inaugural Artist In Residence, Dessa. Dessa’s work will encompass a Jan. 30 performance, classroom visits, artist workshop, and a role in helping plan the Music Sustainability Forum.

When asked what she is most looking forward to this year, Dessa shared, “A career in the arts is by turns thrilling, taxing, confusing, and life-affirming—at least that’s how it’s been for me. You get free drinks and carpal tunnel, your mind blown and your hand stamped. You learn how to collaborate, how to manage both success and disappointment, and, most of all, how to change. I’ve visited Georgetown in the past (often as a guest speaker in Michael Bracy’s seminar and most recently as a participant in the Music Sustainability Forum) and have always left campus impressed and invigorated. I look forward to trading stories, strategies, and ideas with students and new colleagues—sincere thanks for the invitation to serve as Artist in Residence.”
