EVENT: Songwriting in the Age of AI

Award-winning Nashville songwriter Jim McCormick (Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Brantley Gilbert) joins Professor Ben Harbert for a conversation about artificial intelligence and the future of songwriting.

The evening begins with McCormick’s critique of AI-generated country songs created by Georgetown students and collaborators followed by a discussion of how AI is both challenging and transforming the music industry. The event culminates in a challenge: McCormick and the AI will each compose a chorus and hook from an audience prompt, testing the boundaries between human creativity and machine generation.

This event is presented as part of Georgetown’s Music Sustainability Initiative, which supports musicians and the music ecosystem in an era of rapid technological and cultural change.
